ANB is three years old

October 6th, 2010 · 14 Comments · Housecleaning

It’s been three years to the day since I started AutismNewsBeat. You can see my first post here. Much has changed since then, mostly for the better. Top notch investigations by the Chicago Tribune, Wired Magazine, Scientific American, PBS Frontline, and others and shown a light on the anti-vaccine movement. Master prestidigitators Penn and Teller exposed the dishonesty of vaccine rejectionists and the quack autism cure industry. Vaccine scientist Dr. Paul Offit published Autism’s False Prophets, which helped created a more realistic news narrative, and Alison Singer created the Autism Science Foundation.

Thanks to everyone who visits my website, and special thanks to the open-minded editors and reporters who eschew false balance and baseless assumptions, as they write about this complicated and important subject. And thanks to my son, Christopher, who was diagnosed 12 years ago with autistic disorder, for teaching me more than I can put in words.

Chris

Three years of demonstrating that truth in publishing is mightier than the BigLie.

Is that good looking Christopher adopted? I see no family resemblance.

Congratulations! I saw the Penn & Teller episode and called my parents…it was a unique surprise to see family on the show…and of course not a surprise to see you on the smart side of the debate. ;-) Well done!

I just posted a blog post including recollections of when Kev first alerted me to your blog.

Good job keeping the media informed. Glad to see an autism blogger with an understanding of the media.

Three years ago any autism-vaccine story in the press had to have “balance” from JB Handley or some other spokesperson. The NIEHS autism and the environment panel included Mark Blaxill. Success in the autism omnibus was considered possible.

Times have changed. “Balance” is no longer needed. NIEHS has autism experts. The Omnibus is over.

    All this since AutismNewsBeat started.

Coincidence? Mere correlation? Correlation is causation, isn’t it?

The decline of the anti-vaccine movement closely tracks the rise of piracy. Just sayin’.
